Right-wing parties and billionaires are expanding their power worldwide. A socio-ecological transformation is becoming politically distant when Trump calls for more fossil fuels with “Drill, baby, drill” and Merz in Germany plans to build over 40 new gas-fired power plants. How does this relate to other current right-wing political projects?
But while fossil fuel interests remain closely tied to authoritarian power structures, resistance is growing. All over the world, movements are rising, not just to fight for climate justice, but for emancipation, self-determination, and a future grounded in resilience. Resilience, in this sense, means more than just enduring. It’s about the active ability to forge new paths, build unexpected alliances, and imagine bold visions, right in the midst of repression. The climate movement is far from over. It is evolving.
So what could a global, emancipatory movement for climate justice look like today, beyond powerlessness and division? What strategic updates do climate struggles in Germany need? Which ones are already happening?
As the FU Climate Department, we are very pleased to discuss those questions with four inspiring activists and/or scientists from a critical and internationalist perspective. After a 90-minute panel discussion, there will be time for questions, exchange, hanging out, and slush ice.
Invite your friends. Share the event! We look forward to seeing you there!
