What is an exemption from the semester ticket?
In the case of an exemption from the semester ticket, the right to travel is withdrawn and the fees for the semester ticket are refunded.
The ticket must have been paid for in advance!

Who is eligible for an exemption?
All students can apply for a full or partial exemption if they...
- are studying outside of germany for at least 3 months, e.g.Practical semester or internship, as part of the final thesis, semester abroad
- are on leave of absence
- are unable to use public transportation due to a disability or for health reasons
- are in possession of a disabled person's pass with a token
- have been enrolled late
- are also enrolled at another university and receive a semester ticket from this university
Other cases:
- Students who exmatriculate (dropout or graduation) do not need to submit an extra application to us.
The student administration automatically forwards us the exmatriculation applications of the respective students. For a possible partial refund, it is necessary to submit the application for removal from the register of students one week before the end of the month so that the refund can be processed for the following month.
Important:
PhD students are no longer eligible for an exemption if none of the other reasons apply. Just like all other students they have to get the semesterticket. Already having a ticket through other means also does not qualify for exemption.

Attention PHD students! Unfortunately, it is no longer a reason for exemption to do a doctorate at the FU from the winter semester onwards. The signed application can be submitted by mail or e-mail, see Contact. Applications are available in the office and can be completed and handed in during office hours. When submitting an application by mail, the postmark counts as far as deadlines are concerned. All supporting documents can be submitted later.
Deadlines SoSe 2025
Within these deadlines we need a complete application, including all of the neccessary proofs.
If you want the money for the whole semester, we need your complete application by the end of march. Otherwise these deadlines apply.

ATTENTION: We can only exempt full, unused months of the ticket. This means that you will only be refunded the ticket price for the remaining, unused months.
Example: If you submit an application on 20th of May, you will be reimbursed for four months (June, July, August, September). If you submit an application on 5th of July, you will be reimbursed for two months (August, September).
In case of exmatriculation: For a possible partial refund, it is necessary to submit the application for removal from the register of students one week before the end of the month so that the refund can be processed for the following month.
Deadlines WiSe 2024/25
Within these deadlines we need a complete application, including all of the neccessary proofs.
