This morning, the theater courtyard in the Rost- and Silberlaube at the FU was occupied by activists in solidarity with palestine. As far as we know, the university ordered a police eviction within a very short time without giving any notice. A massive police force then evicted those involved in the occupation, also using physical violence. Outside students and observers also experienced police violence in front of and inside the university buildings.
Regardless of the extent to which we share the demands of the protest camp, we consider the violent eviction of a peaceful protest action to be dangerous and completely disproportionate. We see this as an attack on freedom of expression and freedom of assembly.
We strongly condemn the university's repressive and escalating actions against its own students. We stand in solidarity with the people who experienced police violence during the eviction and who have to fear further repression. We call on the university not to file criminal charges and to withdraw all charges already filed.
The presidium of the so-called free university is responsible for the violent eviction and the endangerment of students by the police. We therefore call on the presidium to resign immediately.
