On May 13, many student council initiatives received an invitation to support the organization of the summer festival by agreeing to collect the bottle deposit on the afternoon of the summer festival. The money collected (the amount was estimated at 2-500 euros in the email) was to be kept by the first student council that volunteered to collect the deposits.

First of all, we would like to emphasize that we do not condemn any student council initiative for accepting this offer and participating in the implementation of the summer festival in this way.

The AStA grieves for its former coworker Andreas Aschaber, known as Fonse / Fonsi. Fonse passed away on 2024-06-19 due to illness. Fonse was a dedicated part of the AStA office from November 2017 to July 2022. We remember Fonse as a particularly amicable and solidary coworker and colleague in the fight for a free and just society. It was especially important to him to aid students who came to the AStA with their worries in any way possible.

Our thoughts are with Fonses family and friends. We wish them lots of strength for this difficult time.

On May 7, a protest camp of groups in solidarity with Palestine at the FU got evicted by the police. Over the last few days, we have held numerous discussions to reconstruct what exactly happened on that day and what we think the consequences should be.

This morning, the theater courtyard in the Rost- and Silberlaube at the FU was occupied by activists in solidarity with palestine. As far as we know, the university ordered a police eviction within a very short time without giving any notice. A massive police force then evicted those involved in the occupation, also using physical violence. Outside students and observers also experienced police violence in front of and inside the university buildings.

It has now been almost two months since the Deutschlandsemesterticket was approved by the federal and state governments. The first contracts have been submitted to the student bodies, and for some of them the Germany Semester Ticket is already a done deal. Nevertheless, the Berlin student bodies are not entirely happy with the new ticket, as it still causes too many problems in some areas.

With this statement, the AStA would like to comment on the current events at the FU
Berlin in response to the continuing escalation of violence in Israel and Palestine. We
are primarily addressing all people at the university.
