Our statement: The international week at the so-called Freie Universität

International week 2023 at the FU - 1 week of internationalization

For one week, the so-called Freie Universität Berlin (FU) is all about internationalization.

The first question the FU asks itself for its international week 2023 is:

"What does "internationalization" mean for Freie Universität?"[1]

We would like to answer this question here.

Statement: Future of the semester ticket at the so-called Free University and upgrade option to the 49-Euro-Ticket | 26.05.23

We, the General Students' Committee of the so-called Freie Universität, decided in the course of negotiations for a new semester ticket contract in December 2022 for the current summer semester 2023 to sign the contract offered by the VBB for the summer semester 2023 as well as the coming winter semester 2023/2024.

Press release: Structural reform instead of BAföG cuts!

The General Student Committee (AStA) of the so-called Freie Universität Berlin sharply criticizes the cuts of 440 million euros in the student BAföG decided by the Bundestag.

Last week, the Bundestag passed cuts in the budget for university student's BAföG by around 24 percent and for high school student's BAföG by around 28 percent with the government's draft for the 2024 federal budget. This was justified by Finance Minister Christian Lindner with the calculated real funding volume in 2024.

Statement from FSI Geschichte on the Ukraine war

The AStA FU supports the statement from FSI Geschichte on the Ukraine war and the following demands.

We as the FSI Geschichte demand that the university should be opened up to refugees as quickly as possible. Especiallypeople from third countries who stayed in Ukraine to study at the beginning of the war, face unnecessary difficulties accesing German universities. All bureaucratic barriers must be removed for them as well!
